Professional Biography

Marcia Palof is the manager of the Intake team at the Legal Aid Society of Columbus. While in law school at The Ohio State University, she got her start at LASC through the summer clerkship program in 1978. She joined LASC as a full-time staff member in 1980 and rose to her current position of intake manager in 1985. Marcia oversees applicant requests for services through the intake staff who work to collect as much accurate information from as many people as possible in order to determine whether LASC will be able to serve them or not. If they cannot be served by LASC, she oversees referrals to other organizations that are better suited to meet the clients’ needs. Marcia and her intake workers are also charged with identifying trends in client needs that can be used to improve the overall quality of LASC’s practice and seeking out areas of the law where LASC needs a larger presence. As a part of her duties, she prepares reports to present to LASC’s various funding organizations. Marcia participates in the LASC/PACO Wills Clinics at senior facilities throughout the area and at the monthly Brief Advice Clinics at Broad Street United Methodist Church. She is on the steering committee for the National Coalition for a Civil Right to Counsel (NCCRC) and works with NCCRC to ensure meaningful access to the courts for all by expanding recognition and implementation of a right to counsel for indigent litigants in civil cases involving basic human needs.
